Nov 10, 2022

TEMPE, Ariz. - It's National Championship week in Tempe as Sun Devil Triathlon have their eyes set on Saturday, November 12, when they have the opportunity to extend their National Championship streak to six.

Tempe Town Lake North Park is the site of the Sun Devil Classic presented by Valley Toyota Dealers and the 2022 Women's Collegiate Triathlon Championship for all three collegiate divisions. This is the fifth-straight time that Nationals will be held in Tempe over the last six years. Admission to the event is free and encouraged.

The Sun Devils that will represent the Maroon and Gold in the DI race at 1:30 p.m. will be Liberty Ricca, Amber Schlebusch, Alexe Coursol, Camille Buchanan, Evan Welch, Naomi Ruff and Heidi Jurankova. The top five scorers for Arizona State will be counted for the final score.

Faith Dasso and Madison Judas will be alternates for the event with Judas participating in the age group race earlier that morning.

ASU is no stranger when it comes to success this season as they have won all three of their races this year in convincing fashion. It began with freshman Naomi Ruff winning her first collegiate race at Oktoberfest before the Sun Devils went on to dominate the Denver Relay Races the next day. Arizona State went on to claim first at the West Regional Qualifier.

The hard work and dedication to ongoing success this season was rewarded as Heidi Jurankova, Amber Schlebusch, Liberty Ricca and Naomi Ruff were named to the West DI All-Region team and Jurankova the West All-Region DI Freshman of the Year by the College Triathlon Coaches Association.

Saturday will be the last race for seniors Liberty Ricca and Gal Rubanenko. They have spent all four years at ASU and have given their all to the program as both have two national titles underneath their belts.
