Beavers Take Down Rattlers, Start Season 2-0

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State men's basketball team opened the 2022-23 season 2-0, as the Beavers took down Florida A&M 60-43 Friday evening at Gill Coliseum.
 
Dexter Akanno scored all of his 15 points in the second half. Jordan Pope posted double-figures for the second-straight game, finishing with 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
 
Rodrigue Andela came up with 10 points on 5-for-5 shooting, to go with six rebounds and a pair of blocks. Michael Rataj went 4-for-4 from the floor to end the evening with eight points.
 
As a team, the Beavers held the Rattlers to 31.3 percent shooting from the floor, and 23.1 percent from 3-point range.
 
The Beaver defense locked down the Rattlers in the early going, as Oregon State led 7-2 at the game's first media timeout. Oregon State was in front 18-13 as the game went to a TV timeout with 6:10 to play in the opening half.
 
OSU headed to the break in front 22-17.
 
Oregon State extended the advantage to double-figures seven minutes into the second half. Akanno sparked the Beaver offense to extend the advantage, with Oregon State leading 45-28 with eight minutes to play.
 
OSU extended the advantage to as many as 18, before taking the win by 17.
 
The Beavers will play their third of four consecutive home games on Tuesday when Bushnell visits Gill Coliseum.
