The Pac-12 and Southwestern Athletic (SWAC) Conferences formed a basketball educational and scheduling partnership that will feature a first-of-its-kind annual home-and-home series between member institutions. The men's and women's basketball partnership is aimed at creating both a forum for competition, as well as promotion and education around issues of anti-racism and social justice. The women's team hosted Grambling State on Nov. 11 as the men's team is traveling to Texas Southern on Nov. 13. Arizona State is one of three schools that gets the opportunity to travel to a SWAC school (Washington State, Colorado).

Sun Devil Men's Basketball found its rhythm in a wire-to-wire 84-68 victory over Northern Arizona Thursday night at Desert Financial Arena. ASU used stiff three-point defense and a fast break barrage to get the jump on the Lumberjacks early. In front of the Sun Devil faithful, Bobby Hurley improved to 2-0 for the first time since an 8-0 start in 2018-19 and moved to 34-7 in non-conference home matchups.

DJ Horne led the way with 25 points on an efficient 7-of-11 shooting, establishing a new high scoring mark as a Sun Devil. Devan Cambridge (16) and Warren Washington (12) each reached double figures in addition to having a major impact on defense. Frankie Collins operated an unselfish offense, dishing out eight assists as the Sun Devils shot 54% from the field.

The Sun Devils shot 54.2% (26/48) from the field and 52.9% (9/17) from three-point range in the victory over NAU. Via Pac-12 Research department, thatIis the first time since a 84-66 victory over UCLA back on 2/6/20 that ASU shot above 50% from the field and beyond the arc in the same game. Arizona State is 8-0 under Bobby Hurley when shooting above 50% from the field & 50% from three.

Texas Southern are the defending SWAC tournament champions and have made the NCAA Tournament four of the past five seasons and six of the last eight. The Tigers are hard to beat in Health and Physical Education Arena, compiling a 45-9 record at home over the past five seasons. Arizona State is 2-0 all-time against Texas Southern, with both wins coming under Bobby Hurley.

Opposing teams have found it extremely difficult to shoot against the length and aggressiveness of the Sun Devil defense. This is especially true in the first half and from beyond the three-point line. Arizona State is holding opponents to 5% from three-point range (1/20) in the 1st half through two games.

ASU is 17-9 in Pac-12 two-possession games the past three years and 24-12 overall. Its 24 wins in that time is the most in the league.

Arizona State out-rebounded Northern Arizona by 17 (40-23), giving them a +32 combined rebounding advantage through 2 games.

Preseason Second Team Pac-12 All-Conference selection DJ Horne showed why there was so much buzz surrounding him heading into the season. Horne was brilliant in the victory over NAU, setting a new scoring high as a Sun Devil, finishing with 25 points. He was extremely efficient from the field (7-11) and showed the ability to score in a vareity of ways, making 7-of-9 free throws and 4-of-6 three pointers. Horne added 6 rebounds and is averaging 7.0 per game as a guard. It was his 4th game at ASU with at least 20 PT and second career game of at least 25 points.

"It's definitely going to be different than a normal road trip," DJ Horne responded when asked about the Pac-12/SWAC Legacy Series game "We had a meeting about some of the opportunities we can get to experience when we go on this trip. We are just really looking forward to doing that and learning some new things, but also remembering that this is a business trip at the end of the day. We are going there to get a win."
