Washington’s Hot Shooting Leads to 82-60 Win Over UC Davis

Nov 11, 2022

SEATTLE – The Washington women's basketball team was unstoppable on offense, defeating UC Davis 82-60 Friday night at Alaska Airlines Arena.

The Huskies shot 51.7% from the field, with their biggest lead being by 25. Washington's offense remained selfless, finding their teammates to put up shots, and their depth was obvious as 29 points were scored by the bench.

"I love the way we share the ball," head coach Tina Langley said. "We have a lot of players who can score the ball. This is a really unselfish team, really fun to watch…I think we are having a lot of fun together."

10 Huskies scored during the game, and eight of those had six or more points. Two scored in double digits – Dalayah Daniels (16) and Haley Van Dyke (14).

"I think one thing that is super noticeable is how deep we are. It takes a lot of pressure off of everyone because you know everyone can play, everyone can score the ball, everyone is playing for each other," Van Dyke said.

Van Dyke added six rebounds and two steals on the night.

Teagan Brown and Shayla Gillmer made their Husky debuts, and Brown recorded her first points in the purple and gold. In the final minutes of the fourth quarter, all four freshmen were on the court at the same time.

The Huskies were tough in the paint, picking up multiple and-one opportunities.

A scrappy, energetic defense picked up 14 steals – Daniels had three of those – and forced 19 turnovers.

"I think there are a lot of weapons on this team defensively," Langley said. "I think we are learning that we have that capability."

For the second-straight game to start the season, the Huskies scored over 80 points. The energy felt on the court and the bench alike was electric.

Washington continued to focus on how they can continue to grow each game, and Langley was happy with what she saw.

"I was so proud of everyone who came into the game tonight," Langley said. "I thought everyone who came in was ready and understood the growth that we needed to have as a team. That's what we want to see – everyone able to give each other that time on the floor and have that growth."
