Beavs Carve Up California

Nov 12, 2022

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State football team churned 362 total yards on the way to a 38-10 win over California on Saturday night.

With the win, the Beavers improved their record to 7-3 and 4-3 in Pac-12 play.

Ben Gulbranson tossed for 137 yards on 15 completions and threw a pair of scores. Damien Martinez dashed for 105 yards on 23 carries, leading the Beavers on the ground. Jam Griffin and Gulbranson also added a rushing each to add to the offense.

Oregon State struck for the game's first 21 points, spread between the first two frames coming from rushes from Gulbranson and Griffin and a 55-yard punt return for a score by Anthony Gould. Pouncing on a rare Beaver miscue of the night, the Golden Bears picked up a fumble and took it 33 yards to cut into their deficit.
The Beaver defense held the visitors from Berkeley to just 53 yards of total offense in the first half.

Oregon State came out of the break looking to keep the offense clicking from the first half and did just that – a nine play drive that chewed up nearly the third's first five minutes and ended with a 49-yard field goal from the foot of Everett Hayes to stretch the lead to 24-7. A Cal field goal between the Gulbranson touchdown tosses would wrap up the game's scoring.

For the fourth consecutive contest, Martinez eclipsed the 100-yard threshold, becoming just the fourth Oregon State freshman to achieve that since Jacquizz Rodgers did it in 2008.

The Beavers will hit the road for the final time of the regular season next Saturday against Arizona State. Kickoff from Sun Devil Stadium is set for 11:15 a.m. PT and can be seen nationally on ESPN2.
