USC Women's Soccer Falls in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament to UC Irvine

Nov 12, 2022

LOS ANGELES – The USC women's soccer team fell 2-0 to UC Irvine in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon at McAlister Field.

The Anteaters scored early in the first half and then found a second as USC started to press late, picking up their second straight first-round upset after beating UCLA in the opening round last year.

Destinee Manzo had a goal and assist for UCI, scoring the early goal and then setting up Alyssa Moore for the second.

USC outshot the Anteaters 16-12 on the day but couldn't break through. The Trojans also had seven corners to just three for the visitors.

GOALS
16' – UCI: Destinee Manzo (unassisted) – A long throw was played into the box and after the Trojan defenders failed to clear, Manzo popped a ball back across the face of the goal and into the far right side netting.

88' – UCI: Alyssa Moore (assisted by Destinee Manzo) – Manzo beat a player to the ball near midfield and played it ahead for Moore who got out on the break down the left side, cut it back toward the top of the area and fired back inside the left post for the goal.
