Bears Diving Has Solid Weekend In SoCal

Sophomore Danielle Killeen recorded two top-10 finishes at the Trojan Diving Invitational this weekend.

LOS ANGELES – The California men's and women's swimming & diving teams sent two divers to Southern California this weekend for the annual Trojan Diving Invitational hosted by USC. Highlighting the weekend were the five combined top-10 finishes by men's diver Joshua Thai and women's diver Danielle Killeen.

On the men's side, Thai, a freshman tallied three top-five finishes. While on the women's side, Killeen, a sophomore recorded two top-10 finishes.

Thai opened the stellar weekend on Friday taking fourth in the 1-meter dive. Thai began the event with a preliminary score of 283.80, placing him fourth. In the finals, he was even better finishing with a score of 305.00. He placed fourth overall with a final score of 588.80.

Saturday, Thai once again finished in the top five, taking third overall in the 3-meter drive. He opened the event with a preliminary score of 374.85 which had him in fourth place entering the finals. The 374.85 is a new personal best in the event. In the final she finished third overall with a score of 373.2, giving him an overall score of 748.05.

Thai wrapped up his impressive weekend with a third-place finish in the platform competition. He opened the event with a preliminary score of 316.70. In the finals, he was even better finishing with a score of 326.95, and finished third overall with a final score of 643.65.

On the women's side, Killeen placed ninth in the platform and 10th in the 1-meter dive.

Killeen opened the weekend in the 3-meter competition on Friday. In the prelims, she placed 12th overall with a score of 191.20. In the finals, she finished with a score of 176.70 giving her an overall score of 367.90 which placed her 13th overall.

On Saturday she competed in the platform competition for the first time in her collegiate career. In the prelims, she finished with an opening score of 158.00, which placed her in 11th. In the finals, she improved her standings, finishing with a score of 166.45, giving her an overall score of 324.45 which placed her ninth.

She wrapped up the event with a season-best score of 218.90 in the prelims of the 1-meter dive. In the finals, she finished with a score of 214.70 giving her an overall score of 433.60 which placed her 10th.

Both the men and the women will return to the pool on Wednesday, November 30 when the two programs compete in the prestigious Minnesota Invitational hosted by Minnesota at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, MN.
