NOTEWORTHY

  • Cal is 4-1 all-time against UC San Diego but lost the most recent meeting in last year's season opener in Berkeley. Tuesday's game is the first time the two UC system schools will have played one another outside of Berkeley.
  • The Golden Bears' 13 blocked shots through the first two games of the season are tied for their most in any two-game stretch of the Mark Fox era. Four different Bears have already had at least one multi-block game, highlighted by freshman forward ND Okafor's back-to-back two-block efforts.
  • Junior guard Devin Askew is averaging a team-leading 18.0 points per game through the first two contests. His 19 points against UC Davis and 17 points against Kansas State are the two highest scoring outputs of his 61-game collegiate career.
  • Senior forward Kuany Kuany has scored in double figures in each of the first two games, including a career-high 13 points against K-State last Friday. Kuany has knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in both contests as well, and is shooting 44.4 percent from deep early on this year.
  • Cal's 15-man roster features nine players who measure at 6-foot-7 or taller, signaling an improved amount of length and athleticism.
  • Graduate guard DeJuan Clayton is one of five active NCAA Division I men's basketball student-athletes playing in their seventh collegiate season. Clayton, who has not yet played this season due to an injury, previously played for Hartford and Coppin State, the latter at which he amassed more than 1,500 points and 400 assists.
  • Junior guard Jalen Celestine, Cal's top returning scorer (7.5 PPG in 2021-22) is inactive for Tuesday's contest as he works his way back to full speed following an offseason knee procedure. A timetable for Celestine's return has not yet been determined.
  • Cal is one of six NCAA Division I men's basketball programs with six or more international student-athletes on its roster.
