Jacob Manu Named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week

TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona linebacker Jacob Manu has been selected as the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week following his career-high in tackles at UCLA on Saturday, as announced by the conference office today.

Manu recorded a career-high 10 tackles against the No. 9 UCLA Bruins helping the Wildcats defense limit one of the nation's best offenses to 28 points in the 34-28-win on Saturday at The Rose Bowl.

This honor marks the first Freshman of the Week Award for Manu and gives the Wildcats their third Pac-12 Freshman of the Week selection this season, as well as the sixth overall weekly honor. The Wildcats continue to show off their talented freshman on a national stage with Manu becoming the second Arizona freshman to earn this award. 

Arizona started seven true freshman against UCLA with each first-year Wildcat contributing to the first win against a ranked opponent since 2018 over No. 19 Oregon. It also marked the first win over an AP Top 10 win since beating No. 10 Utah in 2015. For Arizona it was the first road AP Top-10 win since defeating No. 2 Oregon in 2014. 

The true freshman from Santa Ana, California, made his homecoming a memorable one while recording five solo tackles and five assists along with two quarterback hurries and one pass breakup in the victory.

The Wildcats are back in action against the Washington State Cougars in the Military Appreciate Game at Arizona Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 12 p.m. The game will be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks.
