Nov 14, 2022

SAN FRANCISCO – The Pac-12 Conference announced Monday, November 14, that Washington State women's basketball junior Charlisse Leger-Walker has been named the first Pac-12 Player of the Week of the 2022-23 season. Leger-Walker averaged a league-best 25.0 points per game to help WSU go 3-0 during the opening week of the season.

It is Leger-Walker's second career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor, as she previously earned the distinction during her sophomore season back on Dec. 12, 2021. The guard from Waikato, New Zealand put on an offensive clinic during the opening week of the 2022-23 regular season, as scored a league-high 75 total points and shot a blistering hot 52 percent from the field hitting 26 of her 50 field goal attempts. She also dished out a total of 16 assists, which was the second-most collected by a Pac-12 player last week.

It was a week to remember for Leger-Walker, as the 5-10 guard recorded a season-high 35 points in Friday's comeback win at San Francisco then went on to score her 1,000th career collegiate point in a 24-point performance in Sunday's win over Prairie View A&M in the Pac-12/SWAC Legacy Series. Leger-Walker got her week started with a 16-point effort in a season-opening victory over LMU this past Monday at Beasley Coliseum.

The highlight of Leger-Walker's week came in the second half of Friday's comeback win at San Francisco, where she scored 26 of her career-high 35 points to help Washington State turn a 15-point deficit into a six-point victory. The guard scored 51 percent of WSU's points in the win at San Francisco, while she made up a remarkable 57 percent of the Cougar's second-half points against the Dons.

It is Leger-Walker's ninth career Pac-12 weekly award, as she was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week a program record seven times in addition to last season's Pac-12 Player of the Week accolade. She becomes the first Washington State player to win multiple Pac-12 Player of the Week awards since Borislava Hristova. Leger-Walker is also the fourth Cougar women's basketball player to earn two-or-more Pac-12 Player of the Week accolades in their WSU career, joining All-American Jenni Ruff, Tia Presley, and Hristova.
