Waxman, McDivitt Post Utah’s Top Scores on Day Two in Austin

Nov 17, 2022

AUSTIN, Texas – Holly Waxman and Luke McDivitt recorded the highest scores for the University of Utah diving team as the Utes competed on the second day of the Texas Diving Invitational on Thursday at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
"We would have liked better box score results," said diving coach Richard Marschner, "but I'm happy with how we are progressing and making changes. We're kind of in a place with our training where we're taking one step back so we can take multiple steps forward and get better when it really matters in February and March."
The day got started with the men's 1m and McDivitt's work in that event earned him a score of 297.35, which put him in 14th. Right behind him was Ben Smyth whose effort graded out at 281.70, good enough for 17th, followed by Jenner Pennock in 20th.
Once the focus shifted to the women's 3m, Waxman put together a performance good enough to earn her a mark of 280.05 and putting her in 16th, making this the second time in 2022-23 the sophomore has posted a NCAA Zone score in that event. Lizzy DeCecco finished in 21st with a score of 251.30, while Kathryn Grant landed in 24th.
"Luke had a really nice meet," said Marschner, "and put together a very solid list and I was thrilled to see that out of him. Most everyone else did some really great things but each one had one major hiccup that made the overall result suffer."
Looking Ahead
Friday's diving at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center will commence at 9 a.m. with the women's 1m prelims.
