Four Bears Named Academic All-District
BERKELEY – Four members of the California men's soccer team – Tate Dolan, Shoei Honda, Wyatt Meyer and Jack Singer – were named to the 2022 Academic All-District Team, as selected by the College Sports Communicators.
A student-athlete must be a starter or an important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average to be nominated for the Academic All-District Team.
Dolan and Singer completed their Cal careers in the Nov. 12 Big Clasico against Stanford at Edwards Stadium. A defender from Agoura Hills, Dolan has been an important contributor to the backline throughout his time at Cal. A two-time member of the Pac-12 Fall Academic Honor Roll, he will graduate with a degree in economics.
Singer, from San Francisco, had a breakout season as a junior, when he tied for the team's goalscoring lead (3). A dependable defender, he ranks fourth on the team in minutes played (1,190) in 2022. Another two-time member of the Pac-12 Fall Academic Honor Roll, Singer will graduate with a degree in political economy.
A junior defender/midfielder from Berkeley, Meyer capped a strong 2022 season with selection to the All-Pac-12 second team. A member of the 2021 Pac-12 Fall Academic Honor Roll, Meyer led Cal in assists (3), started 16 of 17 games and ranked second on the team in minutes played (1,361) this year despite not playing in the season finale.
Hailing from Sakado, Japan, Honda scored four goals and nine points to rank second in both categories at Cal. The sophomore forward also scored the gamewinning goal in a 1-0 victory over California Baptist on Sept. 10 in Berkeley.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. The Academic All-Americans will be announced on Dec. 7.
