Beavers Fall to Vikings

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State men's basketball team fell to Portland State 79-66 Saturday evening at Gill Coliseum.
 
With the defeat, the Beavers move to 3-1 on the season.
 
Glenn Taylor Jr. led Oregon State with a career-high 25 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the floor and 13-for-15 shooting from the free throw line. Jordan Pope finished in double-figures for the fourth time in four games, going for 14 points.
 
Tyler Bilodeau had seven points, knocking down both of his field goal attempts. Dzmitry Ryuny finished with six points and a team-high eight rebounds.
 
As a team the Beavers out-rebounded Portland State 30-26.
 
The defenses controlled the first four minutes of the contest, as the Beavers headed to the game's first media break leading 4-3. The Vikings used an 8-0 run to go in front 19-10 mid-way through the first half.
 
Oregon State exploded back, using three consecutive buckets from Taylor Jr. to spark an 11-0 Beaver run, as OSU re-took the lead five minutes before the intermission. Portland State banked in a long 3-pointer at the half-time buzzer to send the Vikings to the break in front 37-33. Taylor Jr. had 14 points in the opening 20 minutes.
 
The Beavers re-took the advantage early in the second half, and the teams traded punches for the majority of the period. The Vikings went back in front by six with a few minutes to play, and held on for the 13-point victory.
 
Oregon State will head to Portland this week to take part in the Phil Knight Legacy tournament. The Beavers will open the event Thursday against Duke.
