Beavers’ Season Comes to a Close vs. Portland
CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's soccer team saw its season come to a close Sunday evening, as Portland took a 2-0 victory in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Corvallis.
The game was played before a record Lorenz Field attendance of 1,418.
Oregon State controlled the majority of the first half, creating a total of six shots in the opening 45 minutes. Overall the shot-count finished level at eight apiece.
OSU wraps up the 2022 season with a record of 7-4-6. It entered the NCAA Tournament as the No. 8 overall seed.
The Beavers started the contest on the front-foot, whipping balls into the box as they created chances in the attack. Oregon State created back-to-back chances in the 21st, as Cortijo slid one just beyond the post from a tight angle, and Thiam put his shot over the crossbar moments later.
Dante Williams played a low shot in the 30th, but the Pilot keeper made a diving stop. The Beavers continued to control the opening 45 minutes, but the sides headed to the break level at zero.
Clarence Awoudor very nearly broke the deadlock early in the second half, as his shot bounced off the crossbar and into safety. Portland was able to create some momentum in the middle part of the second-45.
The Pilots found the net in the 78th minute to take the lead. Portland tacked on another with just over a minute to play to secure the result.
Oregon State celebrated its seniors in a pregame ceremony, as the program bid farewell to Adrian Molina-Diaz, Mouhameth Thiam, Javier Armas and Gael Gibert.
