Six Take Titles at Roadrunner Open

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Six Beavers will take home tournament titles in their weight classes as the Oregon State wrestling team partook in the 2022 Roadrunner Open on Sunday.

No. 10 Brandon Kaylor (125), No. 20 Cleveland Belton (141), No. 30 Matthew Olguin (165), Mason Reiniche (174), No. 6 Trey Munoz (184) and Tanner Harvey (197) all ran the table with undefeated marks to win their classes. Kaylor and Belton knocked off ranked opposition in their respective finals and continued their strong starts to the season.

Belton continued his undefeated run with a 5-0 day that featured upending 31st-ranked Angelo Martinoni in the final with a 4-2 decision to clinch the tournament's prize.

Jason Shaner was edged in the 133-lb. championship by 16th-ranked Joe Heilman of Rutgers by a 2-0 decision. On the way to the final match, Shaner upset No. 14 Chance Rich of CSU Bakersfield by a 3-2 decision.

In Reiniche's five wins in the day, he clinched his trip to the final with a pair of wins by fall. The Tennessean finished the winning performance with a 4-3 decision over Utah Valley's Calen Uhlenhopp.

Munoz used a pair of falls and a major decision in his run to the final. He finished the job with a 5-3 decision over 15th-ranked Brian Soldano of Rutgers for the 184-lb. title. 

Harvey took the 197-lb. crown in an all-Oregon State final, where he won via 5-0 decision. A pair of wins via fall got him to the semifinal round, where he took down Evan Bockman - the 31st-ranked wrestler in the class - to set up the match with his teammate.

Reyes (197) took a second place finish in his weight class while a trio – Kaden Kuenzi (133), Jackson McKinney (184) and J.J. Dixon (HWT) – finished in third.

The Beavers will return to the mat in Las Vegas for the Cliff Keen Invitational, taking place from December 2-3.
