Oregon State Drops PK Legacy Finale

Nov 27, 2022

PORTLAND – Oregon State got big contributions from Noelle Mannen and Raegan Beers, but they weren't quite enough to overcome an otherwise sluggish offensive performance in a 54-41 loss to close the Phil Knight Legacy Tournament.

Beers led the Beavs with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor while Mannen contributed eight points with her usual steady play.

Much like Friday's contest, Oregon State got off to a slow start offensively but this time the Beavs held Duke to just four points before getting on the board. Talia von Oelhoffen took the lid off the rim with a three-pointer and Beers gave OSU a 5-4 lead off a pass from AJ Marotte.

The Blue Devils took the lead back shortly after, making five straight jumpers to get out to a 16-9 lead. Raegan Beers trimmed the deficit to five with a layup, but Duke led 16-11 at the end of the first.

The Devils extended their lead to 19-11 before the Beavs made their comeback. Martha Pietsch drained a three and Beers converted an and-one to cut the lead to two. Bendu Yeaney and Jelena Mitrovic each scored baskets to keep Oregon State within striking distance, but a late run from Duke put the Blue Devils up 31-24 at half.

The two squads played back-and-forth for the majority of the third quarter. Mannen gave OSU a big offensive lift, scoring six of the Beavers' 11 points in the period while also forcing a turnover by taking a charge. A late flurry from Mannen, Beers and von Oelhoffen put OSU down 41-35 entering the fourth.

Unfortunately for the Beavs, their shooting struggles continued into the fourth, making just two baskets before the final minute as Duke pulled away. An 11-2 gave the Blue Devils what turned out to be an insurmountable lead despite late efforts from Pietsch and Lily Hansford to cut into the deficit.

Up next, Oregon State hosts its annual Beavers Beyond the Classroom game. Tip is set for 11 a.m on December 1 against Southern.
