Jim (James) Buck | Fight On Forever

LOS ANGELES - Jim (James) Buck, captain of the 1958 USC Men's National Championship tennis team and former volunteer assistant coach for the women's tennis team, passed away earlier this week. 
 
Buck competed two varsity seasons for the Trojans (1957-58) and played the vital role of team captain during the 1958 championship season. 
 
His role at USC was not limited to his experience as a student-athlete as he joined the Women of Troy coaching staff in 2001. Buck continued to showcase pride for his Alma mater, as he spent 11 seasons (2001-2012, excluding 2003) as a volunteer assistant coach for the women's program. 
 
Outside of USC, Buck earned quite a legacy through multiple recognitions amongst the tennis community. Buck was inducted into the USTA SoCal Hall of Fame in 2017 for his time on the court, but mainly for the lasting impact he left as a veteran coach with 33 years of head coaching experience at Van Nuys High School. 
 
Buck always wanted to impact the next generation and did that as he helped mold SoCal junior tennis while being on the SCTA Board of Directors. His commitment to the game will extend for future generations as his name is permanently stamped on one of the most prestigious junior tournaments in SoCal. 
 
Buck graduated from USC with his bachelor's ('60) and his master's ('61) and resided in Woodland Hills with his family. He is survived by his wife, Annette, his son, Jim and his daughter, Cari. There is no information on his memorial service at this time.
