Washington Wins Another on Montlake

Dec 4, 2022

SEATTLE – The Washington women's basketball team (7-1) defeated Queens University (NC) (4-4) Sunday evening in Alaska Airlines Arena 54-28 to keep their undefeated-at-home streak going.

The offense came out hot, shooting 53.3% in the first quarter. At the first quarter break, the Huskies led 18-7. Washington kept the lead going into the half and never trailed all game.

The Washington depth once again showed, with 28 points scored off the bench.

Freshmen Hannah Stines (who recorded her second start) and Teagan Brown had solid nights, with Stines recording nine points and five rebounds, and Brown adding eight points and three rebounds.

Haley Van Dyke tied her career high assists with five, and TT Watkins scored a season-high eight points for the second game in a row.

The defense was the star in the second half, as Washington held Queens to only four points in the third quarter. The Husky defense kept the Royals from scoring a field goal over 8:16.

The 28 total points scored by Queens were the fewest points allowed by UW all season. The Husky defense held Queens to shooting 21.6%, well below their season average of 37.9% heading into the game.

This was also the fewest points allowed by Washington since November 2010 – the last time UW kept an opponent to under 30 points scored.

The Huskies played a team game tonight, and have been able to see growth in every phase as they look ahead to Pac-12 play next week.

Next Up: Washington hosts Washington State for the conference opener on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. in Alaska Airlines Arena. This is the first matchup of the season in the Boeing Apple Cup Series.
