WSU hits the road for a contest at Portland this Wednesday

PORTLAND – The Washington State women's basketball team hits the road for a quick two-game road trip that begins this Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Portland. Tip-off against the Pilots is set for 6 p.m. PT and will air live on WCCSports.com.

Starting Five
>> Washington State heads on the road looking to extend its winning streak, as the Cougs have won three-straight games. WSU is 6-1 on the year after picking up back-to-back 20-point wins over South Dakota State (61-41) and Montana (77-57) last week inside Beasley Coliseum. It is the first time since the 2018-19 season that the Cougars have posted back-to-back 20-plus-point victories.

>> The Cougars and Pilots will matchup on the hardwood for the eighth time ever this Wednesday. Portland leads the all-time series, 6-1, while the Pilots have won each of the last five meetings. Washington State's last win in the series came back on Nov. 29, 1985, with an 84-71 victory in the Rose City.

>> The Cougs will be looking for their third-straight win in a true road game. The streak began last season with a 73-67 win at California. WSU picked up a 69-63 win at San Francisco back on Nov. 11 and has won four of their last six true road games dating back to last season.

>> Junior Charlisse Leger-Walker will look to extend her double-digit scoring streak to nine games this Wednesday at Portland. Leger-Walker has scored at least 10 points in every game for Washington State since her 20-point performance in last season's NCAA Tournament game against Kansas State. Leger-Walker has registered 10 or more points in all but eight games (53-of-61) during her Washington State career.

>> Wednesday's matchup will be the fourth, and final, game against a West Coast Conference team for Washington State during the regular season. The Cougars are 2-1 so far against the WCC, with wins over LMU (93-41) and at San Francisco (69-63). The lone loss came against BYU (65-56) in the first game of the North Shore Showcase in Laie, Hawai'i.

One More Test Before Pac-12 Play
Wednesday's matchup against Portland will be the final non-conference game for Washington State before playing in its first Pac-12 Conference game of the season. After battling the Pilots, the Cougars will head to Seattle to take on Washington Sunday, Dec. 11.

NET Ranking
This first set of NET rankings was released by the NCAA this week. Washington State enters the week holding a NET of 47, which is 12 spots up from last season's final NET ranking of 59.

The Teder Effect
Senior Johanna Teder has scored double-digit points in four-straight games after last Friday's 10-point outing in the win over the Lady Griz. When Teder scores 10 or more points in a game during her WSU career, the Cougars are 17-5.

Leger-Walker Moving Up WSU's All-Time Scoring List
Junior Charlisse Leger-Walker's 24-point outing against Montana moved her past Katie Appleton (1,068 pts; 2005-09) for 17th on WSU's all-time scoring list with 1,082 career points. Leger-Walker is 29 points away from moving into 16th.

Leading the Pac-12
Charlisse Leger-Walker enters the week leading the Pac-12 Conference in scoring at 21.0 points per game. Her scoring average is 11th-best in the NCAA this season, while her 147 total points scored are the 56th-most scored in the country.

The Ironwoman
Senior Grace Sarver has a Ripken-like streak of consecutive games played. Sarver has played in 76 straight games as Cougar, while she is one of three WSU players that has played in every game over the last two seasons.

Scouting the Pilots
Portland comes into Wednesday's game against the Cougars sporting a 5-4 record this season. The Pilots have won three of their last four games, with the lone loss coming in their last game at Oregon (90-51). Portland has been tough at home recently, as the Pilots are 16-5 at the Chiles Center over the last two seasons. Portland enters the week holding a NET ranking of 156.

Junior Alex Fowler, a 6-2 forward from Australia, leads the Pilots in scoring at 15.6 points per game. Fowler has scored 10 or more points in six-straight games, including a 19-point outing at Oregon in her last game. Sophomore Maisie Burnham, who hails from Spangle, Washington, is second on the team in scoring at 10.4 points per game.

The Pilots are averaging 67.7 points per game while shooting 44.5 percent from the field. Portland is hitting 27.9 percent of its shots from behind the arc as a team. Opponents are putting up 62.6 points per contest. Portland is allowing teams to shoot 42.5 percent from the floor and 33.8 percent on 3-point field goals.
