NEW YORK - USC quarterback Caleb Williams was selected as the 88th winner of the Heisman Memorial Trophy, becoming the first Pac-12 player to receive the award since Oregon's Marcus Mariota in 2014. Williams becomes the sixth sophomore to earn this honor and received 77.37% of total possible points, the 12th highest in the history of the Heisman. Finishing first in all six Heisman regions, Williams becomes the seventh Pac-12 quarterback to become a Heisman winner.

The 2022 Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year, presented by Nextiva, had already been honored multiple times this week, winning both the Maxwell and Walter Camp awards while also being named player of the year by both the Associated Press and CBS Sports.

USC has made a historic turnaround in Williams' first season with the team. After the Trojans went 4-8 in 2021, Williams has led Lincoln Riley's squad to an 11-2 record heading into their bowl game. The seven-win improvement matches the best in school history when the 1962 national champions won 11 games after a four-win season in 1961.

Heading into their Cotton Bowl matchup with No. 16 Tulane on Jan. 2, Williams leads the nation with 37 passing touchdowns, which are just two shy of tying the school's single-season record. His 47 total touchdowns lead the nation. The sophomore also broke USC's record for total yards in a season while becoming just the second Trojan to pass for 4,000 yards in a season.
