Turner Earns Pac-12 Weekly Award

Mar 21, 2023
Amari Turner ranks second in Cal women's pole vault history.

SAN FRANCISCO – With the beginning of the outdoor season, the Pac-12 Conference has released its first weekly awards, granting the first Women's Field Athlete of the Week of 2023 to California track & field's Amari Turner.

This is the first conference award for Turner, a senior from Redondo Beach. She set a new pole vault meet record at last Saturday's Cardinal Classic, smashing her personal best at 4.27m (14-0) and moving up to No. 2 in program history. Currently, she ranks second in the nation by just three-quarters of an inch.

"Amari is coming into her own this year," said assistant coach Dan Lefever, who leads the vertical jumps and multi-events. "She makes steady progress each year and has leveled up the next season. This is the result of years of work, resilience and commitment showing up – I am proud and excited for her."

Turner and the Bears will next compete on March 24-25 at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego.
