WSU Clubs Four Homers in Win over Linfield

PULLMAN, Wash. (March 29, 2023) – Washington State hit four home runs in a 9-1 win over Linfield at Bailey-Brayton Field Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Cougars (15-9) matched a season-high with four home runs as Elijah Hainline, Kyle Russell, Sam Brown and Jake Harvey all went deep. Cam Magee and Russell each collected three hits while Russell drove in three and went back-to-back with Brown in the fifth.
 
Seven Cougar pitchers saw work, combining for nine strikeouts while not allowing a walk and just one run. WSU pulled away in the middle innings with one in the fourth, two in the fifth and three more in the sixth. Starter Spencer Jones picked up his first career win with two strikeouts in two scoreless frames.
 
Linfield dropped to 9-16 overall but received four hits from Danny Kahn.
 
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
In the first, Cam Magee led off with an infield single to second base, one out later Sam Brown lined a single to left and Jacob McKeon followed with a sacrifice fly to right field for a 1-0 WSU lead.
 
The Cougars went to the long ball in the middle innings as Hainline hit a solo homer to left in the fifth before Kyle Russel and Sam Brown hit back-to-back solo shots to right-centerfield in the fifth for a 4-0 lead.
 
In the sixth, Linfield used three-straight one-out singles to push a run across but WSU pushed three runs across in the sixth on a two-run single from Magee and an RBI-single from Russell to push the lead to 7-1.
 
WSU added two more in the eighth on Harvey's solo homer and an RBI-double from Russell to score Magee and push the lead to 9-1.

Connor Barison made his season debut, making his return from injury
