STANFORD, Calif. - Anchored by sophomore Preston Summerhays' 11-under 129 (64-65), No. 2 ARIZONA STATE (24-under 676) owns the team lead through Friday's opening 36 holes of the 2023 Pac-12 Men's Golf Championships at par-70, 6,727-yard Stanford Golf Course.

The Sun Devils set the tone early, carding a 19-under 331 for an 11-shot cushion after the opening 18 holes - the largest first-round lead at the Championships since 2010 (ASU, 12 shots).

COLORADO shattered its best-ever round at the Championships (previously 8-under 347 in 2018), and lowest ever on a par-70 layout in program history (10-under 270 in 2012), with a second-round 14-under 336 to narrow the margin. The Buffaloes sit in second, four shots back of the Sun Devils, at 20-under 680, followed by defending champion WASHINGTON (14-under 686), OREGON (13-under 687) and host STANFORD (9-under 691).

The league's top-two ranked players - No. 6 Summerhays and third-ranked Stanford junior Michael Thorbjornsen (63-66) - share the individual lead at the midpoint. Thorbjornsen opened with a season-low 7-under 63 and carded only one bogey on Friday to duel Summerhays, who recorded a pair of eagles and leads the field in par-5 scoring (-7).

WASHINGTON STATE freshman Sam Renner matched Thorbjornsen with an opening 7-under 63, his lowest collegiate round by five shots and the lowest at the Championships in program history, as part of three Cougars in the top 10 through 36 holes along with senior Pono Yanagi and junior Jaden Cantafio. WSU (7-under 693) completes the top-half of the team standings in sixth.

Action resumes off split tees for Saturday's third round at 10:00 a.m. PT, followed by Sunday's final round at 7:30 a.m.
