SAN FRANCISCO -
The No. 1 seed is settled. Everything else is up for grabs. Each of the Pac-12's final four regular-season series this weekend will have a major impact on positioning for the league's inaugural Pac-12 Softball Tournament, hosted by Arizona from May 10-13.
No. 2 UCLA, which has already concluded it's Pac-12 slate and finished 21-3, won its 12th Conference regular-season title all-time and will be the top seed in Tucson. Seed Nos. 2-5 will be some combination of No. 9 Washington (14-7), No. 13 Oregon (14-7), No. 6 Stanford (13-8) and No. 24 Utah (12-9). Oregon hosts Utah and Washington visits Stanford to close the regular season, the latter of which will have Friday's game on ESPNU and Saturday's on ESPN2.
The Huskies are in the driver's seat for No. 2 seed, owning head-to-head tiebreakers over the Ducks and Utes. Utah owns the tiebreaker over Stanford and Stanford owns the tiebreaker over Oregon. Out of 16 possible combinations of results among those four teams this weekend, there are two that could yield a three-way tie.
If Stanford and Utah each win two of three this weekend, Stanford, Washington and Oregon would tie for second place at 15-9 and be seeded in the Pac-12 Tournament in that order, according to the Conference's tiebreaking procedures, which can be found
here
. If Utah sweeps Oregon and Stanford goes 2-1 against Washington, then Utah, Stanford and Washington would tie for second, also at 15-9, and be seeded in that order.
Seed Nos. 6-9 will be comprised of California (7-13-1), Arizona (5-16), Arizona State (5-16) and Oregon State (4-16-1), although the exact order remains undecided.
Cal holds the head-to-head tiebreakers over Arizona State and Oregon State, so needs just one win at Arizona to secure the No. 6 seed or a Beaver win over the Sun Devils to earn the No. 7. Arizona owns the head-to-head tiebreakers over Arizona State and Oregon State and can claim the No. 6 seed by sweeping Cal. The Sun Devils needs to win one more game than Arizona this weekend to earn the No. 7 seed.
To avoid playing Wednesday, the Beavers have to win at least two games against Arizona State and have Cal sweep Arizona, or have to sweep ASU and have Arizona lose at least two to Cal. Oregon State has no path to the No. 6 seed. Cal holds the head-to-head tiebreaker because of the Bears' win over top-seeded UCLA.

-
The Bruins have completed their Pac-12 slate and are 5.5 games clear of second-place Washington and Oregon, both 14-7. At worst, UCLA will win the league's regular-season title by four games, the largest margin since 2004 when Arizona won it at 17-3 and California was second at 13-8 (4.5 games).

UTAH MAKING NOISE:
At 31-13, the Utes are off to their best 44-game start to a season since 2017 (33-11).
-
With three games remaining, Utah's 13 Conference wins are tied for its most in its 12 seasons as a member of the Pac-12 (2016, 2017). The Utes are guaranteed a top-five Pac-12 finish for the first time since they were fifth in 2017. Utah was a program-best fourth in 2015 and 2016.
-
The Utes will head to Eugene looking to earn their third series victory of the year over a ranked foe, previously taking series from then-No. 17 Arizona and then-No. 5 Stanford. The last Utah took three series from ranked teams in a season was 2017 (four). Three weekends ago, Utah swept the Cardinal, the last two in walk-off fashion, for its first three-game sweep of a top-five opponent in program history.
-
Utah started by winning its first two Pac-12 series as a Conference member for the first time, including the program's first series victory over Arizona since 2017.
-
Utah stayed in the NFCA rankings at No. 24 this week, its sixth appearance in that poll this year.
STANFORD'S STRONG START:
No. 6 in the latest NFCA rankings, the Cardinal has been a top-10 program in eight consecutive polls, its longest top-10 run since nine straight weeks from Feb. 23 to April 20, 2010.
