7 from Pac-12 women's basketball at 2023 USA Women’s AmeriCup Team trials

May 10, 2023

SAN FRANCISCO - Six Pac-12 women's basketball student-athletes, including each of the last two Pac-12 Freshmen of the Year, along with Washington State head coach Kamie Ethridge will be on hand for the 2023 USA Women’s AmeriCup Team trials, which begin tomorrow, May 11 and run through Monday, May 15 in Colorado Springs.

Among the 22 players at the trials, the Pac-12 tied tied for the national lead among all leagues with six participants. Oregon State's Raegan Beers, last season's Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, and Utah's Gianna Kneepkens, the 2021-22 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, will be in attendance along with fellow all-conference selections Rayah Marshall (USC) and Charisma Osborne (UCLA). Oregon's Chance Gray will be making her USA Basketball debut following a season in which she earned Pac-12 All-Freshman accolades. Rounding out the group is UCLA's Lauren Betts, who transferred to Westwood after averaging 5.9 points and 3.5 rebounds during her freshman season at Stanford.

Once a 12-person roster is named, the group will return to Colorado Springs for training camp in June in preparation for the 2023 FIBA Women's AmeriCup, which is scheduled for July 1-9 in Leon, Mexico.

Ethridge will lead the USA Women's AmeriCup Team at the event. She has previous USA Basketball coaching experience as an assistant, winning a gold medal at the 2016 FIBA U18 Women’s Americas Championship and silver at the 2017 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup. As a player, she won an Olympic gold medal in 1988 in addition to golds at the 1986 Goodwill Games, 1986 World Championships and 1987 Pan American Games.

Ethridge was named the 2022-23 National Coach of the Year by The Athletic after guiding Washington State to its first-ever Pac-12 Tournament title. The Cougars went 23-10, a program record for wins, and earned their third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Since the event’s inception in 1993, the United States has captured four AmeriCup gold medals, including titles in 2019 and 2021. In addition to the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela will participate in the 2023 FIBA AmeriCup.
