Handful of Utes Named CSC Academic All-District

May 31, 2023

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah cross country and track & field program saw five Utes named to the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District team on Wednesday.

The five honorees for the Women of Utah include: Keelah Barger, Lauren Peterson, Simone Plourde, Emily Venters and Rachel Whipple. In addition to it being the first time that all five have earned CSC Academic All-District honors, they will all move on to the CSC Academic All-American ballot – which will be announced on June 28.

The group of five have a combined total of 47 academic awards between them that span from regional, national and conference academic awards.

Barger, Peterson, Plourde and Venters were integral parts to Utah's historic cross country season that saw them record best finishes in the championships meets – including a program best 12th-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Meanwhile, Whipple has been a cog in the rise of the track & field squad that has continually broken records every meet this season.

Among the five, Plourde (1500m & 5000m) and Venters (10000m & 5000m) will be representing Utah at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships June 8 & 10 alongside Dinedye Denis (400m Hurdles).
