Mariah Lopez Named NFCA Third-Team All-American

May 31, 2023

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Utah junior pitcher Mariah Lopez was named a Third-Team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Wednesday, when the NFCA released its annual list of All-Americans.

Lopez is the 14th player Utah Softball history to be named an All-American and she's the first Utah pitcher to accomplish that feat since Ali Sagas in 1994.

This goes down as one more award in the trophy case of a Utah player who has already captured First-Team All-Pac-12 status, second-team all-region honors and been named the Pac-12 Tournament's Most Outstanding Player in 2023. Lopez's 23 victories are second in the Pac-12 and the most by a Ute since 2000 and she's also second in the league in complete games and strikeouts, while leading the conference in innings pitched. The junior from Arizona also became the first Ute to take home two Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week and Wilson/NFCA Player of the Week awards in one season.

Lopez and her teammates are currently looking forward to their Women's College World Series opener against the Washington Huskies and Utah and UW are currently scheduled to meet Thursday at 8:30 p.m. CT (7:30 p.m. MT).
