Five Women of Troy Earn ACWPA All-America Honors

Jun 1, 2023

USC women's water polo has a stack of five Trojans on the All-America honor roll, as announced today (June 1) by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches. All five — Paige Hauschild, Tilly Kearns, Bayley Weber, Carolyne Stern and Grace Tehaney — also earned ACWPC All-America honors last year. Hauschild, Kearns and Weber have landed on the All-America First Team, with Stern and Tehaney earning All-America Honorable Mention for 2023.

Each Trojan played key roles in taking USC to a fifth straight NCAA Championship game in 2023. Ranked No. 1 in the nation during the year, USC finished 28-3 overall and generated one of its most powerful offensive seasons in history. Weber and Kearns combined for 140 of USC's 498 goals scored on the year, marking the first time that two Trojans have tallied more than 65 goals each in the same season.

This set of 2023 awards also caps off the USC careers of three Trojans. Paige Hauschild has now earned All-America First Team honors in each of her four years as a Trojan, with the captain having scored 44 goals and led the team in assists in her final season. Bayley Weber and Grace Tehaney have each played five seasons at USC, with Weber's 2023 All-America First Team status going along with three Second Team selections earned in 2020, 2021 and 2022. Weber was also named MPSF Player of the Year and led USC in scoring with 71 goals and in field blocks as a tenacious defender. Tehaney, meanwhile, also stands as a four-time All-American with Honorable Mention earned the past three seasons and a Third Team selection in 2020. She scored 47 goals in 2023 and was one of USC's key defenders and distributors.

All three Trojans, who also won NCAA titles while at Troy, leave a continued legacy in the USC record books, with Weber ranked No. 6 all-time in career scoring (214 goals), Hauschild at No. 10 (208) and Tehaney at No. 14 (170).

For redshirt junior Tilly Kearns, this marks the Cutino Award finalist's second straight spot on the ACWPC All-America First Team. USC's second leading scorer with 69 goals in 2023, she led the Trojans in steals and drawn exclusions. Goalie Carolyne Stern averaged 8.8 saves per game this season to help secure her second round of All-America status with her 2023 Honorable Mention following a Third Team pick last year. With another season ahead, Stern ranks No. 7 all-time in career saves at USC with 392 to her name.
