Defending Pac-12 champion Stanford has been voted by the Conference’s women’s volleyball head coaches as the league’s preseason favorite for the upcoming 2023 campaign.

The Cardinal, which claimed a fourth Pac-12 title in the last six seasons in 2022, garnered 11 first-place votes and tallied 121 points to take the top spot in the annual coaches poll. Washington State edged out Oregon for the runner-up spot, collecting 105 points, followed by the Ducks in third with 103 points and the final first-place vote.

This is the first time since 2019 and the 18th time overall that Stanford has been picked to win the league. The second-place finish for the Cougars is their highest preseason ranking since they were chosen to finish second in the 1996 poll, while the Ducks take the third-place spot for the fifth time in the last seven years.

The preseason favorite has gone on to win the league title 21 times in the 37 years of Pac-12 women’s volleyball, which includes Stanford winning back-to-back national titles after it was chosen as the Pac-12 favorite in both 2018 and 2019.

USC totaled 91 points, UCLA reeled in 75 points and Colorado collected 67 to round out the top half of the rankings. Washington finished seventh (62 points), Arizona eighth (54 points), Utah ninth (49), Arizona State 10th (28 points), Oregon State 11th (23 points) and California 12th (14 points).
