LEADING OFF:  With roughly a month to go until the 2024 Pac-12 Tournament in Scottsdale, #4 OREGON STATE leads the conference by half a game.  The Beavers offense continues to roll with Gavin Turley swinging the hottest bat with 2 grand slams and 12 RBI in the last 3 games to take over the conference lead with 51 driven in this season.  Mitch Canham’s squad heads to Berkeley this weekend to face a CALIFORNIA team riding a 5-game win streak, matching their season high.  Rodney Green Jr. has 3 straight multi-hit games and 4 home runs in his last 6 games.

ARIZONA had their 11-game win streak snapped on Tuesday but still holds a 7-game conference win streak, one short of matching their school record.  Cam Walty leads the Pac-12 with 6 wins and has allowed 1 earned run in 18 innings over his last 3 starts.  The Wildcats host WASHINGTON STATE this weekend, who started their road trip with a win at Grand Canyon on Wednesday.  Nate Swarts has picked up right where he left off after missing 9 games, going 7-14 in the 4 games since he’s returned and has multiple hits in 6 of the last 8 games he’s played overall.

#18 OREGON has won 11 of their last 14 games and have finished on top of their last 6 weekend series.  Jacob Walsh was 4-5 with 2 home runs in Tuesday’s win over Gonzaga, giving him 6 dingers in the last 9 games.  The Ducks will be on the Farm this weekend to take on a STANFORD team that’s scored 23 runs in their last 2 games.  Jimmy Nati is 7-13 with a home run and 5 RBI over the last 3 games.

UTAH put up 27 runs on 30 hits on Tuesday, the 3rd time in the last 4 games they’ve scored 10+ runs.  The reigning Pac-12 Player of the Week, TJ Clarkson, is 12-18 in the last 4 games with 4 home runs and 12 RBI.  The Utes will host a WASHINGTON squad that has won 2 of their last 3 conference series.  Cam Clayton has hit safely in 5 straight games and is 8-11 with 4 runs scored and 4 RBI in the last 3 games.

USC looks to keep the momentum of their win over #16 UC Irvine on Wednesday as they have a non-conference weekend slate with Sacramento State and Santa Clara.  Austin Overn has 3 straight multi-hit games and the Trojans have won 10 of their last 14 overall.

Freshman Wyatt Halvorson had one of top pitching performances of the season for ARIZONA STATE on Tuesday, striking out 13 over 5 scoreless innings at Cal State Fullerton.  The Sun Devils stay in Southern California this weekend to take on UCLA.  Duce Gourson is hitting .306 in the Bruins’ 17 home games where he’s hit 4 of his 5 home runs.

Rankings

RPI:  Through games of Wednesday, April 17, the Pac-12 has 7 teams in the Top 85 which is more than the other 4 West Coast conferences combined.  Oregon State, who is 14-4 against the Top 100, comes in at #14.  Arizona is the second highest rated team at #31, climbing from #93 on March 27.
