PHOENIX – Playing in a top-10 rubber match, No. 9 Arizona State rallied and played the the very final strike with a chance to win in the ninth, but the team came just shy of the comeback bid in a 4-3 decision against No. 3 Oregon State on Sunday afternoon, dropping the deciding game of the series.
Sun Devil Baseball right-hander Alec Marsh welcomed the defending national champs to town with an emphatic victory on Friday, as No. 9 Arizona State (27-5, 10-3 Pac-12) took down third-ranked Oregon State, 4-1, to open the three-game series at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
USA Baseball unveiled the Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list on Wednesday, moving closer to naming the top amateur baseball player in the country. Three Sun Devils were recognized in the announcement with infielder Spencer Torkelson earning the nod for the second consecutive season, alongside teammates and first-time selections outfielder Hunter Bishop and right-hander Alec Marsh.
