Jun 19, 2021
Nathan Adrian will seek a spot in the 50-meter freestyle final after he advanced to the semifinal round Saturday morning.

OMAHA, Neb. – Three-time Olympian Nathan Adrian advanced to the 50-meter freestyle semifinal round with the third-fastest qualifying time Saturday morning at the 2021 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials.

Adrian touched the wall in 21.85 seconds to win the seventh heat and secure the third seed in Saturday night's semifinals. His qualifying time was only behind Caeleb Dressel (21.29) and Michael Andrew (21.72). Adrian, who has represented the United States at three consecutive Olympic Games dating back to 2008, has not yet clinched a spot on the U.S. roster, as he could not advance through the 100 free semis on Wednesday.

Three other Golden Bears swam the 50 free, with incoming signee Jack Alexy taking the first alternate spot at 17th with a time of 22.47. Also in action were two-time 50-yard free NCAA champion Ryan Hoffer (19th, 22.50) and four-time Olympic medalist and Cal Athletic Hall of Fame member Anthony Ervin (23rd, 22.61).
