Pac-12 signs the COVID Collaborative, a pledge to create #COVIDSafeZones for student-athletes

Sep 3, 2021

In an effort to promote student-athlete health and safety, Pac-12 Commissioner George Kliavkoff, in agreement with the Pac-12 Student-Athlete Health & Well-Being Initiative (SAHWBI), has signed on to the COVID Collaborative. The Pac-12 joins the other Power Five conferences in signing the COVID Collaborative, which is described in a press release as "a national assembly of experts, leaders and institutions in health, education and the economy and associations representing the diversity of the country to turn the tide on the pandemic by supporting federal, state and local COVID-19 response efforts."

Power Five conferences have led the way already on vaccine promotion, with over 85% of student athletes and staff choosing to get vaccinated. The COVID Collaborative will continue to promote vaccines, by providing resources for vaccination events on campuses, in an effort to make large sporting events as safe as possible.

Choosing to sign the COVID Collaborative is another positive step in the relentless effort to #VaxThePac.
