2024 Women's Lacrosse Tiebreakers Language

Seeding

The seedings and pairings shall be determined upon completion of regular season play. The won-lost percentage record of the teams in regular season Conference play will determine tournament seedings. The team with the best won-lost percentage in Conference play will be seeded #1, the next best won-lost percentage in Conference play will be seeded #2, and so forth through all the seeds.

Tie Breakers

Tie breaking procedures for determining all Tournament seeding will be:

Two-Team Tie

  1. Results of head-to-head competition during the regular season.
  2. Each team’s record (won-lost percentage) vs. the team occupying the highest position in the final regular season standings, and then continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.
  3. When arriving at another group of tied teams while comparing records, use each team’s record (won-lost percentage) against the collective tied teams as a group (prior to that group’s own tie– breaking procedure), rather than the performance against individual tied teams.
  4. Each team’s average goal differential (max of 10 goals per game) against Conference opponents.
  5. Each team’s average “goal against” (max of 10 goals) against Conference opponents.
  6. Won-lost percentage against all Division I opponents.
  7. Coin toss conducted by the Commissioner or designee.

Multiple-Team Tie

  1. Results (won-lost percentage) of collective head-to-head competition during the regular season
    among the tied teams.
  2. If more than two teams are still tied, each of the tied team’s record (won-lost percentage) vs. the
    team occupying the highest position in the final regular season standings, and then continuing
    down through the standings, eliminating tied teams with inferior records until one team gains an
    advantage.
    When arriving at another group of tied teams while comparing records, use each team’s record (won-lost percentage) against the collective tied teams as a group (prior to that group’s own tiebreaking procedure), rather than the performance against individual tied teams.
    When the multiple-team tie is reduced to two teams, the two-team tie-breaking procedures will be
    applied.
  3. Each team’s average goal differential (max of 10 goals per game) against Conference
    opponents.
  4. Each team’s average “goal against” (max of 10 goals) against Conference opponents.
  5. Winning percentage against all Division I opponents.
  6. Coin toss conducted by the Commissioner or designee. If a coin toss is needed to establish the final seeding and pairings, it will be administered by the Conference sport liaison.
