EUGENE, Ore.
Oregon State stacked podium finishes in a solid day at the Oregon Twilight.
"Well, it was cold and wet out there, a good way to end the regular season in the Northwest. Today was all about getting some more reps for some and seeing if we can move some people up the west region list. We accomplished that," head coach Louie Quintana said. "How about Keely McLaughlin? Another school record. She had a great series. So did Maryann in the javelin. She's really peaking well. It was great to cap off the night with Kaylee executing so well in the 1500 off a slower pace. She closed extremely well perfect timing heading into the championship season."
After waiting four years to re-break her school record in the shot put the first time, Keely McLaughlin waited just six days to break it again. The senior's put went 15.41m/50-6.75, outpacing her previous best by an inch and three-quarters. She was one of five winners for OSU on the day, going 1-2 with Taylor Crockem (14.91m/48-11).
Kaylee Mitchell provided another of the victories, outracing a star-studded field to win the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:14.76. The redshirt-senior bided her time in the middle of the field for much of the race before exploding to the front in the final lap and pulling away down the stretch for the win.
Among the field that Mitchell knocked off were the no. 11 and no. 5 collegiate runners in the 1,500 entering the day and Olympian Courtney Frerichs.
The Beavers also earned wins in the 100 meters (Jada Hurley), 100 hurdles (Anneke Moersdorf) and long jump (Delaney Bahn). Hurley also finished second in the 200 meters with a 25.30-second mark.
Katie Gelston was another bright spot on the day for Oregon State. The freshman - competing unattached had two marks that would rank inside the OSU Top 10 already. Her 45.26m/148-6 personal best javelin throw placed fourth at the meet while a 48.60m/159-5 effort in the discus placed second.
Gelston was the second of three Beavers in the javelin, placing behind Maryann Ackermann. Ackermann improved her personal best already the no. 9 throw in school history to 45.49m/149-3.
UP NEXT
