By: Pac-12 Conference
Matty Bianchi, R-Jr., Little Rock (Two Rivers, Wisc.)
Little Rock’s Matty Bianchi was named Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week, the Conference office announced Tuesday morning.
It’s the third Conference weekly honor of the season for Little Rock and first for Bianchi. The Trojans last secured weekly acclaim on Tuesday, Jan. 21, following Jordan Williams’ 3-0 performance (149 pounds) at the Davidson Duals.
Bianchi collected his first pin of the season during Little Rock’s dual against No. 2 Oklahoma State on Saturday, Feb. 8. The 157-pounder secured an upset victory over then-No. 12 Caleb Fish, winning by fall at 5:26. The redshirt junior gave the Trojans a 13-12 lead with his win before Little Rock ultimately fell to the Cowboys, 25-13.
ALSO NOMINATED: Koda Holeman, Cal Poly
- At 125 pounds, Holeman picked up an upset victory over then-No. 11 Maximo Renteria of Oregon State this past weekend (Feb. 7). He’s now 17-8 on the year and 9-2 in dual matches.
ALSO NOMINATED: Gerrit Nijenhuis, Cal State Bakersfield
- Nijenhuis secured his sixth-straight match victory with a win at 184 pounds against then-No. 31 Gage Musser of Air Force (Feb. 9), his fourth ranked victory of the season thus far.
ALSO NOMINATED: Ethan Stiles, Oregon State
- Stiles, a two-time Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week honoree, defeated then-No. 6 Chance Lamer in Oregon State’s victory over Cal Poly (Feb. 7). The win was Stiles’ third-straight over a ranked opponent and fourth-straight overall.
