CORVALLIS, ORE. – Oregon State’s Trey Munoz was named the 2025 Pac-12 Wrestling Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the Conference office announced ahead of the Pac-12 Wrestling Championships in Corvallis. The award, which is presented in each of the sports sponsored by the Pac-12, was established to honor student-athletes who are standouts both academically and in their respective sport.

It’s the first-career Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for Munoz, as he becomes the first Beaver to earn the honor in wrestling since the award was established in 2007-08. Munoz is a senior at Oregon State pursuing his degree in Education and is a two-time National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar-Athlete.

The Mission Viejo, Calif., native is a three-time Pac-12 champion at 184 pounds (2022-24) before moving up to 197 pounds for the 2024–25 season, where he is currently the No. 8 wrestler in the country on FloWrestling’s most recent rankings.

Munoz is a two-time All-American and is coming off a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships at 184 pounds in 2024. He finished sixth in the weight class in 2023 and has four-career NCAA qualifications to his credit.

To be eligible for the Pac-12 scholar-athlete of the year award, student-athletes must be a senior (in athletics eligibility), on track to receive a degree, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests in the sport and have a minimum one year in residence at the institution. Each Pac-12 institution may nominate one individual per sport, and the winners are selected by a committee of Pac-12 staff members at the conclusion of each sport’s regular season. The athletics accomplishments of the nominees are a consideration in voting for the award.
