IRVING, Texas – Washington State University had six football student-athletes named to the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame 2025 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, it was announced recently.
Included on the 2025 Hampshire Honor Society list from WSU were quarterback Zevi Eckhaus, edge Andrew Edson, punter Nick Haberer, kicker Dean Janikowski, linebacker Kyle Thornton and edge Syrus Webster.
Eckhaus, a senior from Culver City, Calif., is a President's Honor Roll member who boasts a 3.94 grade point average as a general studies major. After transferring from Bryant University prior to the 2024 season, Eckhaus appeared in three games last season, including the 2024 Holiday Bowl, where he threw for 363 yards and three touchdowns.
Edson, a senior from Snoqualmie, Wash., received his degree in computer science with a 3.81 GPA. A President's Honor Roll member, Edson was a three-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection and a three-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll pick. Last season, he appeared in all 13 games, starting 12, while making 41 tackles with 6.5 for loss including 2.5 sacks.
Haberer, a senior from Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia, posted a 3.42 GPA while receiving his degree in public relations. A President's Honor Roll member and two-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll selection, he appeared in just four games last season due to injury, averaging 40.1 yards per punt on 14 attempts.
Janikowski, a graduate student from Fallbrook, Calif., boasted a 4.00 GPA while working towards his MBA degree. Having received his undergraduate degree in digital technology and culture, he was a four-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll selection and member of the President's Honor Roll. This past season, Janikowski was named a Wuerffel Trophy Finalist, College Football's premiere award for community service, a William V. Campbell Trophy Semifinalist, given to College Football's best scholar-athlete, and selected to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
Thornton, a graduate student from Upland, Calif., carries a 4.00 GPA while pursuing his MBA degree. Thornton, who holds an undergraduate degree in economics, is a four-time All-Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll selection as well as a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District pick. This past season, he started all 13 games and was second on the team with 71 tackles, including a goal-line stop to preserve a 24-19 victory over Washington in the Apple Cup.
Webster, a senior from West Jordan, Utah, was a general studies major with a 3.56 GPA. This past season, his first at WSU after transferring from Utah Tech, he registered 32 tackles in 13 games played, including 3.5 tackles-for-loss.
Nominated by their respective schools, members of the NFF Hampshire Honor Society must have:
- A senior player, who will graduate this spring/summer, and just completed his final year of playing eligibility in 2024; or
- A graduated player, who has been out of high school at least (3) years.
And must have:
- Attained a minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.2 (4.0 scale); and
- Been starters or significant contributors throughout the 2022 season.
