AROUND THE PAC-12
NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER: As the calendar turns to November, the race for the Pac-12 Championship Game is heating up with 3 key matchups in the hunt. San Diego State and Washington State are the final Pac-12 schools to hit their bye week.
- #25 Boise State holds a 13-1 advantage in their all-time series with Colorado State but the Rams did win the last time these 2 met up in Fort Collins. In 2023, Brayden Fowler--Nicolosi threw 3 touchdown passes in the final 4:01 of the 4th quarter to overcome a 30-10 deficit to pull out a 31-30 victory. Fowler-Nicolosi hit Dallin Holker on a 33-yard score with 1 second remaining for the winning margin. Ashton Jeanty had run for 212 yards and 3 scores in that game to build the Broncos lead. 7 of Boise State’s 13 wins in the series are by 28 points or more.
- Fresno State has won their last 2 trips to Logan and 4 of their last 5 road games against Utah State. The Bulldogs’s last road trip in 2023 saw Malik Sherrod with a game-winning 11-yard TD run with 2:19 left, his 3rd of the game, to beat the Aggies 37-32. Utah State did win last year’s meeting in Fresno, overcoming a 17-7 halftime deficit with a 21-0 blanking in the 2nd half including a pair of touchdown runs from Javen Jacobs in the 4th quarter. Utah State has won 5 of the last 7 meetings overall.
- Saturday’s nightcap pits the first ever meeting of 2 of the top most prolific offenses in college football with Texas State and Oregon State. Both are ranked in the Top 7 nationally in total offense and top 13 in FBS in scoring offense. The Bobcats are looking for their first road win of the season with their 2 road conference games decided by a total of 3 points. The Beavers are 3-1 at home this season and won their 2 home conference games by a combined 70 points.
POLL WATCHING: The first CFP rankings of the season were released on Tuesday night and Boise State made the cut for the first time since 2024 at #25. As the only team from a non-autonomous conference in the Top 25, the Broncos would be in the CFP as the #12 seed if the playoffs started today. Spencer Danielson’s team is ranked #20 in the AP poll and #21 in the coaches poll while also being the highest rated team from a non-autonomous conference in the SportSource Team Strength Rankings (#16), Strength of Record (#19), FPI (#32), and ESPN’s Game Control (23rd)

DOUBLE TROUBLE: For the 1st time this season, 1 Pac-12 player won multiple conference weekly awards as Boise State WR Rasean Jones took home both Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week after the Broncos 46-45 win over Texas State. Jones set career highs in receptions (9), receiving yards (117) and receiving touchdowns (3) becoming the 2nd Bronco freshman all-time to have 3 receiving TD in a game and 3rd to top 100 yards receiving in a single game. He is just the 3rd freshman in FBS this season to have 100+ receiving yards and 3+ receiving TD in the same game, joining Oregon State WR Jesse Legree (who did it in back-to-back games) and Wake Forest TE Dominick Barry. Jones ranks 4th among FBS true freshmen this season with 545 receiving yards, 5th with 37 receptions and tied for 4th with 4 receiving touchdowns. The Boise State WR is the first Pac-12 player to win Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week in the same week since Cal’s Jaydn Ott in 2022.
THAT ‘DOG IN HIM: Oregon State’s 5-game win streak came to a halt on Halloween in Fresno with the Bulldog defense leading the way in a 38-22 victory. Fresno State DL Dylan Hampsten had 2 sacks and forced fumble along with 7 tackles to earn Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week. It was the second time this season that Hampsten has had multiple sacks in a game as the Bulldogs matched their season-high with 5 sacks as a team after OSU had allowed only 5 sacks the previous 6 games combined. Fresno State is also the 1st team this season to force multiple Oregon State turnovers in a game, with the Beavers only having 4 turnovers the previous 7 games. Hampsten now ranks 2nd in the Pac-12 this season with 5 sacks and 9.0 tackles for loss.
FOR KICKS: Despite the Beavers loss, Oregon State kicker Caleb Ojeda was still named the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week. Ojeda made all 3 of his field goal attempts (54, 29, 28) and was responsible for 10 of their 22 points. The career-long 54-yard field goal was the longest in the Pac-12 this season and longest by an OSU kicker since Everett Hayes’ 55-yarder in 2024. Ojeda is also 37-for-37 on extra points this season and 56-for-56 in his Oregon State career. This is the first time a Beaver has won the conference’s special teams weekly honor since OLB Cade Brownholtz in 2022 after his blocked punt against Oregon and the first OSU kicker to win since Trevor Romaine in 2013, who also made 3 field goals in a loss.
CRUNCHING THE NUMBERS: According to PFF College, it was a good week for Pac-12 offensive lineman. Texas State center Mikel Udengwu made their National Team of the Week as the highest rated player at his position while Utah State RG George Maile and San Diego State RT Dennis Jones were the highest rated at their position from schools from non-autonomous conferences. Oregon State TE DeCorion Temple, Utah State WR Anthony Garcia, and Texas State DL Tymere Jackson were all also recognized.
WALKING THE WALK: The Burlsworth Trophy, the award given out to the top college football player in the country that started their career as a walk-on, announced their 65 nominees for the 2026 season with 5 Pac-12 stars on the list. Boise State LB Boen Phelps, who won the award’s Walk-On of the Week in Week 1, was joined on the list of nominees by Fresno State OL Ben Baker, Oregon State OL Tyler Voltin, San Diego State punter Tashi Dorje, and Utah State DT Carson Tujague. Pac-12 players have won this award once since it started in 2010 with Washington State QB Luke Falk earning the honors in 2017. The award will announce their semifinalists on Tuesday, November 10th.
PAC PRIMERS
Boise State
- The Broncos have now won 7 straight games, 1 of 5 FBS teams with a current 7+ game win streak, and are the only Pac-12 team undefeated in conference play (4-0). Spencer Danielson’s team is averaging 37.1 PPG during the streak and have won 7 straight games while scoring 31+ points in each game, the first time they’ve done that since 2014. The last time the Broncos did that in a longer streak was in 2010 when they scored at least 33 points in each of their first 10 games while starting that season 10-0.
- After starting QB Maddux Madsen was injured in the 4th quarter, Max Cutforth saw his first action of the season and had a career-high 3 pass TD with 131 pass yards on his first 3 possessions in the final 6:15 of the game to lead the comeback. Cutforth played in 11 games with 3 starts when Madsen was injured last season, including leading Boise State to a win over Colorado State.
- Playing without RB Sire Gaines, Dylan Riley had 86 rush yards and a touchdown in the win over Texas State to top 1,000 yards on the ground for the 2nd straight season. Riley is the 10th Bronco in program history with back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons and currently ranks 2nd in the country with 1,049 rush yards and 131.1 rush yards per game.
Colorado State
- Jim Mora’s squad returns home this week where all 3 of their wins have come. The Rams are averaging 39.6 PPG at home this season while their 35.5 PPG overall this season ranks 25th in FBS. Boise State is the 2nd AP Top 25 opponent the Rams have faced this season (BYU #11 at time of game) and Colorado State is looking to snap a 27-game losing streak to AP Top 25 teams since beating #7 Colorado in the 2002 season opener. The Rams have 1 win over an AP Top 25 at home since at least 1980, beating #19 Wyoming in 1990.
- Playing without RB Mel Brown last week, Colorado State is coming off their lowest offensive output of the season with 14 points and 263 total yards at Utah State but is still one of the most explosive teams in the country. The Rams are averaging 6.49 yards per play this season, 24th best in FBS, and their 25 scrimmage plays of 30+ yards this season are tied for 8th most in the country after having only 18 plays of 30+ yards all of last season. Brown is responsible for 5 of those plays of 30+ yards and is 27th in FBS with 113.9 all-purpose yards per game.
- RB Durell Robinson had 66 yards on the ground a rush TD against Utah State, his 6th straight game with a rushing touchdown and tied with Boise State’s Dylan Riley for the Pac-12 lead with 9 rush TD on the season. Robinson is looking to become the first Rams RB with 10+ rush TD in a season since 2016 when Izzy Matthews punched it in 13 times on the ground. The last CSU RB to have 6 straight games with rush TD was also Matthews who had a 6-game streak in 2017 and a separate 9-game streak that spanned the 2016-17 seasons.
Fresno State
- The Bulldogs win over Oregon State snapped their 2-game losing streak as Matt Entz’s team improved to 3-1 at home this season with the lone blemish coming to Boise State. All 5 of Fresno State’s wins this season are by 14+ points, 1 of 19 FBS schools this season with 5 or more wins by 14+ points. With their next win, the Bulldogs will be bowl eligible for the 6th straight season, their longest streak since going to 7 straight bowl games from 1999 to 2005.
- QB Jayden Mandal was 11-of-17 for 202 pass yards with 2 pass TD and 2 rush TD in the win over Oregon State. It was the first time since Jake Haener in 2022 that a Fresno State QB had 2+ pass TD and 2+ rush TD in the same game and just the 6th time since at least 1995. Mandal did throw his 2nd interception of the season and his first since the season opener to snap a streak of 180 straight attempts without a pick. The Bulldogs currently have a 0.9% interception rate (2 INT on 218 attempts) and have only finished under 1% once in the last 30 seasons when Billy Volek and company had 3 interceptions in 359 attempts (0.8%) back in 1999.
- RB Bryson Donelson for season-high 108 yards on 16 carries with a touchdown for his 2nd game with 100+ yards rushing and 4th time in his career. Donelson had a career-long 63-yard touchdown run against the Beavers and set a new career high with 6 rush TD on the season.
Oregon State
- Had their 5-game win streak snapped at Fresno State but they return home this week, where they’ve won their last 3 games, outscoring their opponents 166-61 in that span. The Beavers have scored 40+ points in 4 of their 8 games so far this season, already tied for the 3rd most in school history after having done it 5 times in 2003 and 2013.
- QB Braden Atkinson set season-highs with 33 completions and 59 attempts in the loss at Fresno State and his 373 pass yards gave him a school record 8 straight games with 300+ pass yards. Atkinson already matches last year’s leader of 300-yard games with Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss (who did it in 15 games played) and is the first FBS QB to have 300+ pass yards in a team’s first 8 games of the season since Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. in 2022 (with current OSU head coach JaMarcus Shephard and offensive coordinator Mitch Dahlen on that UW offensive staff). The 33 completions are the most by an OSU QB since Tristan Gebbia had 34 against Oregon in 2020 and the 59 attempts are the most since Sean Mannion’s 66 against Arizona State in 2011. Atkinson leads the country in pass yards (2,977), pass yards per game (372.1) and pass TD (25).
- WR Jesse Legree had his streak of games with 100+ receiving yards and streak with a receiving touchdown end at 7 games against Fresno State but still had 7 receptions for 70 yards. The true freshman leads the nation in receiving yards (1,110), receiving yards per game (138.8) and receiving touchdowns (14) which is just 2 short of Brandin Cook’s single-season school record and 4 away from Washington’s Mario Bailey’s Pac-12 record of 18. Legree was named this week as 1 of the 14 semifinalists for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year award for the nation’s top freshman.
San Diego State
- The Aztecs head to their bye week on a winning note after defeating Washington State 26-20. Sean Lewis’ team improved to 3-0 at home in conference play, winning those games by a total of 11 points. SDSU was outgained 367-306 in the win over the Cougars, the 2nd game this season they’ve won while being outgained (Texas State, 565-239).
- RB Lucky Sutton rushed for 115 yards on just 18 carries against Washington State, his 2nd 100-yard game of the season and 8th of his career. After missing 3 games due to injury, Sutton is averaging 107.7 yards per game over the last 3 games with 5.6 yards per carry. Fellow RB Javion Kinnard had 87 yards on 17 carries in that game with 2 rush TD, his 2nd straight game with multiple rush TD - the 1st Aztec to have multiple rush TD in back-to-back games since Rashaad Penny accomplished it in the final 3 games of the 2017 season.
- True freshman safety Tainoa Lave had a career-high and team leading 9 tackles (8 solo) plus a forced fumble in his first career start. Lave had only surpassed 4 tackles in a game once before this season when he had 7 at Oregon State. He was the first true freshman to start for SDSU on defense since 2023 (safety Marcus Ratcliffe vs. Ohio) and just the 6th all-time.
Texas State
- The Bobcats are coming off a tough 46-45 loss at Boise State where they overcame a 28-3 halftime deficit with 36 straight points in the 2nd half. After being held to 3 points and 117 total yards with 4.5 yards per play in the 1st half, GJ Kinne’s offense exploded for 42 points and 312 total yards with 8.4 yards per play in the 2nd half.
- QB Brad Jackson was phenomenal despite the loss, going 23-of-38 for 327 yards with 4 pass TD and added a team-leading 54 yards on the ground and another score with all 5 touchdowns coming in the 2nd half. This was the 3rd time this season that Jackson has thrown for 4+ pass TD in a game, tied for the most in FBS. Jackson is the only QB in FBS this season with at least 1,900 pass yards and 400+ rush yards.
- DB Jayden Bradley had 9 tackles (5 solo) with 0.5 TFL and a 20-yard interception return for touchdown in the loss to Boise State. It was the first defensive touchdown on the season for Texas State and the first Pick 6 by a Bobcat since Christopher Jones had a 100-yard return against Southern Miss last season. It was also the first interception thrown by Boise State QB Maddux Madsen all season.
Utah State
- The Aggie defense continued to shine under Bronco Mendenhall in a 31-14 win over Colorado State. Utah State held the Rams to season lows of 14 points and 263 total yards after CSU had averaged 38.6 PPG and 460.1 YPG in their previous 7 games. It’s the 3rd straight opponent that the Aggies have held under 300 total yards, only the 2nd time in the last 30 seasons that Utah State has done this with the previous occurrence happening in September 2013 (Air Force, Weber St, USC).
- For the first time since Week 1, QB McCae Hillstead was back in the starting lineup, completing 17-of-22 passes for 173 yards and score while adding a team-high and career-high 79 yards on the ground with his 1st career rush TD. Hillstead also had his first career receptions on a 44-yard pass on a trick play. The Aggies had their season high in points (31), total yards (464) and rushing yards (247), their first time topping 200 rush yards this season after doing it 3 times last year.
- With their leading WR Eli Wood out with injury, WR Anthony Garcia had a career day with 11 receptions for 121 yards while also throwing a 44-yard pass. It's the most receptions by an Aggie in a game since 2024 when Jalen Royals had 11 against New Mexico. The 121 yards matches Garcia’s career-high and is the most by an Aggie since he had 121 yards on 3 catches against San Jose State in October of last year. The 44-yard completion is the longest of Garcia’s career as the converted QB is 8-for-9 career as a passer with 5 pass TD over the last 2 seasons.
Washington State
- QB Owen Eshelman completed 30-of-42 passes for a career-high 299 yards while adding 34 rush yards and 2 scores on the ground at San Diego State. It was the most passing yards by a WSU player this season and the first Cougar QB with multiple rushing touchdowns in a game since Zevi Eckhaus had 2 against Louisiana Tech last November. 7 of Washington State’s 12 rush TD this season are by QBs (Eshelmman and Caden Pinnick with 3 each, Julian Dugger with 1).
- WR Daniel Blood had a career game against the Aztecs with 8 receptions for 105 yards against the Aztecs, his 1st career game with 100+ receiving yards. Blood is the 2nd Cougar receiver this season to have 100+ yards in a game with Branden Ganashamoorthy gaining 147 yards on 11 catches 2 weeks prior at Oregon State in what was also his 1st career game with 100+ receiving yards.
- Safety Jaylen Thomas picked up his 3rd interception of the season against SDSU and his first since grabbing 2 against Kansas State in Week 2 . Thomas is the 1st Cougar with 3 or more interceptions in a season since 2024 when Ethan O’Connor finished the season with 4 and Taariq Al-Uqdah had 3. The 3rd year safety who transferred in from San Jose State this offseason is 1 of 2 FBS players this season with both a punt return touchdown and interception return touchdown (Jacksonville State’s Caleb Nix).
