CORVALLIS, Ore. – Part two of the Gymnastics 101 series hosted by the Oregon State gymnastics team takes place at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Gladys Valley Gymnastics Center. Admission is free and fans are invited to join the fun and get a look at the 2015 gymnastics team in action.
The three-part series is an educational opportunity for fans to learn the intricacies of gymnastics including gymnastics positions, form, difficulty, strategy and the scoring system.
This Saturday’s workshop will focus on the uneven bars and with instruction from assistant coach Brian Amato with assistance from OSU gymnasts. The series continues next Saturday, Nov. 15, at 3:45 p.m. with head coach Tanya Chaplin discussing the finer points of the balance beam and floor exercise.
The Beavers season begins with the annual Orange & Black Exhibition Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.
Oregon State returns 10 letterwinners, and 19 out of 24 routines, from the 2014 season. Senior Chelsea Tang and sophomore All-American Madeline Gardiner and fellow sophomore Kaytianna McMillan, all of whom qualified to NCAA Championships last season, will be expected to lead the squad in 2015. The addition of a pair of freshmen, Dani Dessaints and Shireen Khamedoost, as well as three transfers, Silvia Colussi-Pelaez (Florida), Risa Perez (Arizona State) and Jamie Radermacher (Eastern Michigan), will provide immediate competition throughout the lineups.
