2014-15 Season is Underway

STANFORD, Calif. - The 2014-15 Stanford wrestling season got underway on Monday with the start of the team's first official practice. Fifth-year senior tri-captain Garrett Schaner talks about the excitement in the wrestling room and the expectations of the upcoming season.

The Cardinal is coming off its best dual season in program history, finishing 17-5 in 2013-14. Leading the squad along with Schaner are captains Michael Sojka and Jim Wilson, the 2014 Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Year. Two-time NCAA qualifier and 2014 conference champion Evan Silver is also back this season.

Head coach Jason Borrelli, now in his seventh year at the helm of the program, added Jamill Kelly, a 2004 Olympic silver medalist, to his staff in the offseason. Kelly (2013) and assistant coach Ray Blake (2014) have both been named Social Media Assistant Coach of the Year by Elite Level Sports Marketing during their careers.
