Nov 6, 2014

NEW YORK - UCLA's Mackenzie McDonald and Martin Redlicki picked up a win in their first doubles match at the 2014 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Thursday at the USTA's National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York. Earlier in the day, McDonald was ousted from the singles portion of the event, falling in the first round.

McDonald and Redlicki recevied a first-round bye in the draw and began the tournament in the round of 16 against Columbia's Ashok Narayana and Max Schnur. The Bruin duo was able to get by in straight sets, posting a 6-3, 7-5 victory to advance to the quarterfinals where they will take on the winner of Thursday's late match between second-seeded Roberto Cid/Sasha Gozun of South Florida and Alex Lawson/Billy Pecor of Norte Dame. That match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. (EST) on Friday.

McDonald didn't fare as well in the first round of singles on Thursday, as the third-seeded Bruin dropped a tight three-setter to Virginia Tech's Amerigo Contini, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. McDonald now turns his attention to the consolation draw in New York, which begins on Friday.
