SEATTLE – Riding a six-match unbeaten streak during Pac-12 play, UW women’s soccer will play host to USC Friday afternoon to begin its final home weekend of the regular season.
The Huskies (12-4-1, 5-2-1 Pac-12) are coming off a scoreless tie in Boulder after beating Utah in Salt Lake last weekend. UW currently sits in a tie for third place in the Pac-12 with Washington St. behind No. 1 UCLA, who comes to town on Sunday, and No. 3 Stanford. The Huskies can clinch their first conference winning record in the Pac-12 since 2008 with a result this weekend.
Jaclyn Softli leads UW with 10 goals in 2014, which is tied for seventh all-time for most goals in a single season at Washington. Her six game-winners this year are third most all-time. Softli’s 19 career goals also put her in the top-10 all time in that category.
Senior midfielder Kate Bennett is second on the team with six goals to go with her three assists. Freshman Kimby Keever has recorded five goals and two assists, while Amanda Perez has contributed two goals and three assists. Sophomore Becca Schoales has three goals on the season.
The UW back line is led by goalkeeper Megan Kufeld, last week’s Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week. She did not allow a goal in three games and has not given up a score in 458 minutes, running her consecutive shutout streak to four games. The last team to score on UW was Arizona St. on Oct. 10 in the 12th minute in a game the Huskies came back and won. Her seven shutouts in 2014 tie her career best and place her in the top-10 for most single-season and career shutouts at UW.
Center backs Stine Schoening and Allyson Brahs have started every game, and freshman Dominique Bond-Flasza has been a consistent right back since she took over the starting role. Defensive midfielder Christina Archer is on the verge of cracking the top-10 for most appearances by a Husky. She is currently at 77 in her collegiate career.
USC (10-5-2, 4-4-0 Pac-12) is coming off a weekend sweep of Oregon and Oregon St. after a five-game homestand that saw the Trojans drop four of five. They are currently in fifth place in the Pac-12.
The Trojans are led in scoring by Alex Quincey with 10 goals, who typically comes in as a sub. Kamie Fink has five goals and four assists. Katie Johnson has contributed four goals, as 18 different players have scored for USC this season.
UW is 8-10-2 all-time against USC. In their last meeting, the Huskies beat the Trojans 1-0 on the road, their first victory over USC since 2004.
Friday’s match will kick off at 4 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Network. Fans wearing a Halloween costume will get free admission. Follow the action on Twitter at @UW_WSoccer.
