TULSA, Okla. – The University of Washington’s nationally-ranked doubles pair of Emmett Egger and Jeff Hawke picked up a first round win at the ITA All-American Championships before falling in the Round of 16 at the prestigious event.
Egger and Hawke, ranked No. 21 by the ITA, opened up play in the doubles main draw against Clemson’s Alejandro Augusto and Hunter Harrington. The pair claimed a 7-6 (11), 6-4 win to advance to the Round of 16, becoming the first Husky doubles team to make it that far at the national event since 2002.
The next round pitted UW against Paul Oosterbaan and Ben Wagland from Georgia, who entered the tournament ranked 26th nationally. The Bulldogs claimed the first set 6-2 but Egger and Hawke battled back to win set two, 6-2, sending the match to a tiebreak. UW went up 7-5, but Georgia battled back for the 1-0 (9) win.
The Huskies continue their fall season at the ITA NW Regionals, Oct 17-19.
