Shimizu and Lukac To Play for Doubles and Singles Titles at SDSU Fall Invite
SAN DIEGO - The University of Washington women’s tennis doubles duo of Riko Shimizu and Julija Lukac advanced to the championship match of the black doubles bracket on Saturday at the San Diego State Fall Invite. Shimizu and Lukac also earned spots in the championship matches of their respective singles draws.
In doubles play, Shimizu and Lukac easily handled Priscila Garcia and Melissa Baker of UC Santa Barbara, 8-0.
Shimizu then knocked off San Diego State’s Jana Buth 6-2, 7-5 in the white singles draw to earn a match-up against Kat Facey from UC-Irvine on Sunday.
Lukac battled hard against San Diego State’s Kennedy Davis before coming out on top with a 6-0, 2-6, 10-5 victory to pit her against Mazy Watrous of UC Irvine in the black singles championship match on Sunday.
The final day of action gets started at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
