Women's Hoops Takes Time to Give Back

Oct 30, 2014

TUCSON, Ariz.--- With the new season just around the corner, the Wildcats took a break from their busy practice schedule to spend some time with the kids from the Delta Academy Wednesday evening.

The Cats spent hours playing games and teaching various basketball drills to over 20 elementary school children before entertaining a question and answer session, where various Arizona players shared their knowledge and experience.

The session strictly focused on time management, proper eating habits, and the student-athlete experience.

The event concluded with a healthy dinner where more laughs and stories were shared amongst the group.

The Delta Academy is a nationally recognized leadership program sponsored by the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority that encourages minority girls between the ages of 11 and 14 to pursue opportunities within the fields of math, science, technology and engineering. The sorority’s Tucson Alumnae Chapter offers Delta Academy programs in Tucson and Sierra Vista.

Head coach Niya Butts is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta.

Arizona will take the floor for the first time on Nov. 11 in an exhibition affair against Concordia University at 3 p.m. MST inside McKale Center. The Cats will tip off the regular season at home against Cal State Bakersfield on Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. MST.
