TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will head to Las Vegas, Nev. this weekend to take on UNLV and Utah in a tri meet at Buchanan Natatorium on Sat. Nov. 1 at 2:00 p.m. PDT.
Arizona’s last men and women’s combined meet ended with a 180-101 win over the Wisconsin Badgers. The women’s swim team is coming off a 172-89 victory over Washington State.
The team of Bonnie Brandon, Emma Schoettmer, Katja Hajdinjak and Taylor Schick finished first against both Wisconsin and WSU with a time of 1:41.63 and 1:42.85 respectively. Against WSU, Claire Lockridge took first in the 1000 free with 10:18.52 while Bonnie Brandon won the 200 free with a time of 1:48.90. Brandon also finished first in the 500 free (4:50.14) followed by Lockridge (5:04.58).
Schoettmer put up two first place finishes. She won the 100 breast (1:03.48) and also won the 200 breast in 2:16.87. Elizabeth Pepper finished first in the 200 fly (2:03.70). Schick finished with two back-to-back wins in the 50 free with a time of 23.30 and the 100 free in 50.72. Hajdinjak followed Schick with a second place finish in the 100 free (52.31).
In the men’s last meet, against Wisconsin, the team of Michael Meyer, Andrew Sovero, Andrew Porter and Brian Stevens won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:30.09. Sovero finished first in the 100 breast with a time of 54.79. Stevens later claimed a victory in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.62 to go along while Porter took first in the 100 fly with a time of 48.89
The Utah men’s team is coming off three victories at the Intermountain Shootout defeating U.S. Air Force Academy (259-113), Colorado Mesa (297-113) and BYU (236-136). The women’s team previously lost to Boise State (143.5-156.5), but beat both Colorado Mesa (314-60) and BYU (291-83) at the Intermountain Shootout. The last meeting between Arizona and Utah ended in a 204-96 Wildcat victory.
This will be UNLV’s first meet of the season. Arizona defeated UNLV last season, 208-91.
