Oct 17, 2014

SAN DIEGO--- Sophomore Lauren Marker and freshman Hanna Sohn teamed up to clinch a dominating 8-0 victory over Loyola Marymount’s Lisa Piller and Kylie Waschuk, as the tandem advanced to the round of 16 in doubles play on day two of ITA Southwest Regional action Friday afternoon.

For Marker and Sohn, the win marked the duo’s first victory together. They’ll try for their second straight victory tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. PT, as the tandem will take on Pepperdine’s Michaela Cappanolo and Daniele Feneridis for a spot in the tournament’s quarterfinal round.

No. 58 ranked and sixth-seeded Marker picked up another win in main draw action on Friday, as she dismantled Arizona State’s Leighann Sahagun in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the round of 16, before eventually falling to UCLA’s 12th-seeded Kaitlin Ray in a hard fought three-set affair, 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-2. The sophomore came just inches away from a quarterfinal berth.

Sohn saw her main draw run come to an end on Friday, as she faced her first ranked opponent of her collegiate career, dropping a 6-0, 6-1 match to No. 57 ranked and fifth-seeded Catherine Harrison from UCLA.

The Cats will get back after it tomorrow, as Sohn and Marker continue their pursuit of a doubles championship on day three of the five-day regional championship event.
