SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – For the second consecutive season, California junior guard Tyrone Wallace is the season’s first Pac-12 Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. The Bakersfield, Calif. native logged 42 of Cal’s 184 points this weekend en route to the Golden Bears’ blowout wins over Alcorn State and Kennesaw State as part of the regional round of the 2K Classic.
In Cal’s season opener on Friday, Wallace poured in a career-best 22 points and 10 rebounds for his third career double-double to defeat the Braves 91-57. Against Kennesaw State on Sunday, Wallace was one rebound shy of recording his second consecutive double-double, following up Friday’s strong debut with 18 points and nine rebounds plus seven assists to help Cal to a 93-59 victory.
Wallace averaged 20 points, 9.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per contest as the Bears move to a perfect 2-0 start on the season.
This is Wallace’s second career Pac-12 Player of the Week award. He also earned the honor in the first week of the 2013-14 season. The honor marks Cal’s 53rd Player of the Week selection all-time.
The Bears continue the 2K Classic in New York City, heading to Madison Square Garden to face off against Syracuse on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. PT. live on ESPN2. Cal will finish 2K Classic play with either Iowa or Texas on Friday, Nov. 21, to be televised live on either ESPN2 or ESPNU.
