No. 15 Cal defeats Vanguard, 75-42, in Exhibition

BERKELEY, Calif. - Backed by a double-double from sophomore Courtney Range, the No.15 California women's basketball team treated fans to a 75-42 exhibition victory over Vanguard on Saturday afternoon at Haas Pavilion.

Range, who rounded out her performance with 11 rebounds, led a trio of Bears in double figures as senior Brittany Boyd and freshman Mikayla Cowling logged 12 points and pulled down seven boards apiece. Every Golden Bear who entered the game registered points, including sophomore KC Waters (9), redshirt sophomore Brittany Shine (8) and sophomore Mercedes Jefflo (7). Freshmen Gabby Green and Penina Davidson and senior Justine Hartman poured in 12 points, collectively. 

For the game, California connected on 47 percent (34-73) of its shots, including 19 percent (4-21) from 3-point range and 50 percent (3-6) from the charity stripe. Vanguard shot 26 percent (16-62) from the field, 32 percent (7-22) from beyond the arc and 38 percent (3-8) from the free-throw line. The Bears won the rebounding battle 51-38 and held a 16-7 advantage in second-chance points.

The Golden Bears tip off their season on Sunday, Nov. 16, when they head to Stockton, California, to take on Pacific at 4 p.m.
